SALT PLATE COOKING INSTRUCTIONS :
Salt Plates can be chilled in the freezer for serving exquisit desserts, ice cream, fruit and cheese platters, cold meats and sushi. They are known for keeping food chilled for longer, so not need to worry about your ice cream melting so fast.
Heat on the gas stove or barbeque, or pop in the oven with great heat distribution. Can be used to cook, finely sliced meats, seafood, vegetables.
Heating on Electric Stove: use a flame tamer to raise the salt plate above the burner.
Heating on Gas Range/Grill: Heat on a low flame until warm, gradually increasing to medium, then high until desired temperature is reached, generally around 15-20 minutes.
For Oven: heat at 250 degrees for first 10-12 minutes, then increase to 400F.
AFTER CARE : After use, let cool completely to room temperature.
WASH: Rinse lightly, quickly, and scrub vigorously with a steel wool scrubby. Rinse again quickly. DO NOT USE SOAP. DO NOT PLACE IN DISHWASHER. DO NOT SUBMERGE IN WATER. Dry with a clean cloth and allow to further air dry.
Store in location with low humidity. Do not store on metal, copper, or bronze surfaces. Himalayan salt does not require the use of any cleanser as it is naturally anti-microbial.
Note that our Himalayan Salt Plates are natural, slight size and colour variations may be found and therefore different threshold for pressure and heating. They will get discoloured when heating so a spare one may be preferred for serving if you want it to look like it di, when purchased.
PLEASE NOTE: It is important to heat your salt block gradually to reduce stresses caused by expansion. If cooking on a burner use the low setting to warm the block for 10 minutes (in the oven set the temperature to 200 degrees for warming). Increase the temperature in 10 minute increments to medium and finally to high until the maximum temperature in reached to around 550-600 degrees in about 35 minutes. It is especially important to follow this procedure for the initial use of your salt block to avoid it cracking.
